If you have been following To Be Shelved for a while, or even just a few weeks, you've probably picked-up on my love for John Updike.
When I came across this quote of his this weekend, it just sunk in and seemed to completely summarize why I was currently curled up in bed with "Rabbit at Rest" and a giant cup of coffee.
What books unlock your traffic jams? Seriously, please tell me so I can borrow them in the future.
ps.
Another favorite literary quote
& a very confusing Updike cover

This is actually a really sad thing to say, but the next best thing to reading is reading about reading. I love your blog. It makes me happy and sad at the same time because I haven't read in like a month now. So I just wanted to tell you that you are awesome and that I love your blog.
Smiling through my tears,
Lizzie
Lizzie, that's so sweet! Thank you!
I haven't read anything by Updike, even though I keep meaning to! Maybe it's time to put him at the front of my queue.
Traffic jam clearing books for me are childhood favorites. I especially like "The Giver" and "On My Own Two Feet" (Beverly Cleary's autobiography) for these purposes. I can fully relax and get immersed in the reading world without worrying about what's going on in the real world!
I am sending you a book today! Send me Updike back.
